    In using East Sussex Historic Environment Record (HER) I acknowledge that:

    • East Sussex County Council holds copyright of the ESCC computerised HER data. No reproduction of ESCC HER data in the form of a direct copy of the original will be allowed.
    • The information in the ESCC HER although verified as far as possible, is not definitive and ESHER cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies in the data.
    • At the time of enquiry, information may exist concerning archaeological sites hitherto unknown to the County Council which will not therefore be included in the computerised HER.
    • The location of artefacts or secondary sources referred to in the ESCC HER but not held by East Sussex County Council cannot be guaranteed.
    • At the discretion of East Sussex County Council, certain data may be withheld under the provisions of the Data Protection legislation.
    • The East Sussex HER must be acknowledged where data is used in publication.
    • A charge may be made for the provision of archaeological advice, as set out on the attached Policies for Access and Charging document
    • The ESHER must be given full details of the nature of the enquiry and the user (s) of information. Users are required not to use or pass on ESHER information in an irresponsible or unethical manner. The data collected may only be used for the purpose stated and is not transferrable. ESHER data is valid for up to 12 months, use after this period is not permitted unless with prior agreement from the ESHER.
    • Users are requested to advise ESHER of any apparent inaccuracies found in the record and of any relevant information not yet held.
    • The data is provided solely for the user and it is their responsibility to ensure sufficient data protection is in place to comply with UK and European Data Protection legislation.
    • Any HER maps covered by Ordnance Survey Copyright must not be reproduced in any format. To do so will result in a breach of Crown Copyright.
    • ESHER data is not permitted for re-use by third parties, unless with prior agreement from ESHER.

    These are the terms and conditions of using East Sussex HER data and need to be agreed by the applicant before the request can proceed.
